Clackmannanshire is one of 32 unitary council regions in Scotland, and a Lieutenancy Area, bordering onto the areas of Perth and Kinross, Stirling and Fife. It is the smallest unitary council region in Scotland, and is thus nicknamed "The Wee County". Main industries: agriculture, brewing, and formerly coal mining.

It is also a traditional county of Scotland, bordering on Kinross-shire, Perthshire and Stirlingshire.

N.b. The image of the traditional county inaccurately shows a detached part of Stirlingshire that lies locally in Clackmannanshire as being part of Clackmannanshire. It also shows this county bordering onto Fife when it fact its southern boundary borders with a detached part of Perthshire that lies locally in Fife.
